Have you ever dreamed of developing your own game? Our next special guest, Dennis Strümpel from ShoulderByte, has done exactly that!
FOMO takes place on October 28, 2026, at HOT studio. FOMO is our meetup for the cultural and creative scene. At FOMO, you’ll get exciting input from a rotating lineup of speakers and the chance to network with other creatives.

Dennis is a game developer who is building his own video game as a solo developer: Drill Keeper. It brings together roguelite deckbuilding, tower defense, and base building: you dig your way through fully destructible worlds, collect resources, and use cards and other abilities to build up your defenses against hostile creatures.

But what’s almost more exciting than the game itself: Dennis turned his own game idea into a professional project and found a major publisher for it. After the first concepts in 2021 and more than three years of development work, Drill Keeper was signed by the US publisher Hooded Horse in 2024. So Dennis knows not only the creative side of game development, but also the path from a first original concept through development to a publishing deal.

At FOMO, Dennis will take you behind the scenes of his solo development journey: How do you actually develop your own game? How does an idea turn into a working game? And how do you ultimately get a publisher excited about your project? If you dream of developing your own game, are interested in the gaming industry, or simply want to know how a personal game idea can become a real business, you should definitely not miss our next FOMO!

FOMO is a joint event by KreativInstitut.OWL and Kreativ Campus Detmold e.V.
