From your first piano lesson to a grand concert evening: Detmold is brimming with music – and now, for the first time, you can find it all at a glance. The new Music Compass showcases the city’s extraordinary musical diversity: for the first time, an interactive map and a searchable directory bring together Detmold’s numerous musical events, venues and ensembles in one place.

Whether it’s early musical education, instrumental and singing lessons, music schools, nurseries and schools with a focus on music, choirs, orchestras, bands, workshops or venues – the Musikkompass provides a comprehensive overview of the city’s musical landscape. It is aimed at families, music enthusiasts, educational institutions and ensembles – and at anyone who would like to discover musical activities or make new connections.

The Music Compass was developed as part of the “Talent Development Pilot Project”, which is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Detmold was selected as a pilot municipality for this project. The aim is to highlight the wide range of opportunities for making, learning and experiencing music – and to make these more accessible to all citizens.

The Music Compass continues to grow: ensembles, organisations and initiatives that are not yet listed, or that wish to report any changes, are warmly invited to get involved.
