The city hall was built around 1790 as a princely riding hall and was used for this purpose until the 1930s. After World War II, the building was converted into an event venue, first renovated in 1977, and then gradually and completely restored between 2010 and 2020. The beautiful setting in the middle of the castle park makes the hall a truly special event location. The multifunctional grand hall offers space for up to 680 people, while smaller modern rooms complete the facilities. Here, you can celebrate, enjoy a variety of stage performances, or hold conferences, seminars, and trade fairs.

In addition to the large and small halls, the city hall also features an entrance foyer and three conference rooms that can be used and rented for a wide variety of occasions.
The grand hall offers excellent possibilities for larger events across 500 m². Depending on the stage size, it can accommodate up to 472 people, who can either dance on the parquet floor or enjoy a stage performance.
The small hall is particularly suitable for meetings, sessions, conferences, and lectures, but also for small stage performances such as cabaret or children’s theater. Not only is the room beautiful, but the view of the surroundings is unmatched in Detmold: the sight of the castle, the park, the Ameide, and the state theater provides a stunning backdrop.
In addition to the halls, the entrance foyer (approx. 130 m²) and the cloakroom foyer (100 m²) can also be used for various events. The entrance foyer can be equipped with seating and a small stage, including PA and lighting.
The two conference rooms (50 m² and 35 m²) can be used individually or together. A small kitchenette with a refrigerator is available for both rooms. Here, you can hold meetings undisturbed while enjoying a wonderful view of the castle square.
