Culture needs places that are functional and inviting in order to have an impact on society and enhance the quality of lifein Detmold. The choice of cultural spaces is crucial in determining how and where the city is energized by culture. Various factors must be considered, such as the usability of buildings, public spaces, or digital spaces, as well as their requirements and accessibility. Multifunctional spaces are especially important to allow for diverse cultural uses. Additionally, these spaces must be easily accessible and attractively designed, while also considering resource costs.
Objective
The city administration wants to create transparency about the need for and availability of spaces for cultural use, including in existing cultural venues, in order to better match supply and demand. Cultural actors should also explore how space requirements for shared use can be bundled to save resources. Furthermore, cultural spaces should be opened up and made more accessible to new groups, as cultural participation is considered a human right. Detmold plans to make cultural spaces more attractive and improve accessibility.
A particular goal is to preserve Hangar 21 as a vibrant cultural venue and develop economically viable usage perspectives.
More space will also be provided for visual artists to present their works to a wider audience.
Ideas for Actions
In the topic “Spaces for Cultural Experience and Creation,” the following actions have been proposed:
- A needs and potential analysis should be conducted to determine which spaces are still needed for cultural production and reception, and how existing space offerings can be utilized. This will include the identification and analysis of space needs, uses, requirements, and available spaces, with a focuson possibilities for shared use.
- A usage concept for Hangar 21 should be developed, identifying funding sources and improving accessibility, with a focus on economic viability.
- Vacant spaces should be activated through pop-up events.
- Additional presentation spaces for visual arts should be identified and made available.
